Company HistoryGSD Navigation A division of Global Sports Development Ltd As it happens GSD Navigation started out as Global Sports Development Ltd, a motorsport marketing and management group with four budding racedrivers. GSD's objective was to promote these drivers in every way possible and to provide real, effective and measurable benefits to all involved sponsors and drivers alike. In a bizarre twist the Managing Director, Nigel Rees secured a sponsorship deal with Garmin for the Atomic Kitten backed MG BTCC team. Nigel was aware of Garmin's expertise in GPS technology and later purchased a Streetpilot III Satellite Navigation System from Garmin. After driving just a few miles with the system Nigel was so impressed he promptly turned round and informed Garmin that he would like to become a dealer. 3 Years Later... GSD Navigation is a value added dealer of satellite navigation systems and has begun creating its own mapping solutions for corporate clients, and has produced its own highly successful product in conjunction with the Caravan Club. UK Caravan sites software was launched in November 2005 and has been very well recieved on the Caravan circuit. GSD is currently the only UK company to hold an MPC licence from Garmin - allowing it to add to Garmin mapping and create the bespoke products and solutions described above. Our way Over 40 percent of GSD's business - both commercial and corporate - is from referrals. There is really only one way to achieve this - happy customers. GSD prides itself on its customer service and endeavours to provide advice and support both before and after the a purchase. So whether it is a one-off private sale or a corporate multisytem order GSD will look after its customers. The Team Nigel Rees - Managing Director Nigel's impressive career began when he graduated as a Mechanical Engineer from Cardiff University and spent several years with STC (while supporting a successful motorsport programme) and then moved to Nortel (formerly Northern Telecom) Nigel spent many years travelling the world (USA, Japan, Singapore) while working for Nortel as Vice President and General Manager of Asia-Pacific Switching. Nigel took early retirement in the summer of 2000 and after a year he set up Global Sports Development. Nigel is passionate about motor racing and is a talented guitarist. Denise Rees - Director and Shipping Manager Denise built a nursing career from an early age, and now combines her professionalism with her approachable 'people person' attitude and is a credit to GSD. Concentrating on shipping and customer care, Denise is an essential part of the business. Gareth Paine - Finance Director Gareth Paine is GSD's finance director and is a certified chartered accountant. He is Managing Director of Paine Accountants Ltd who specialise in Motor Sport accountancy. Guy Allen - Technical Adviser and Customer Advisor (Part time) Guy, a self-confessed Mini addict and music buff joined the team in 2004 and is dedicated to providing excellent advice and technical support on all of the systems that we sell. He specialises in motorcycle solutions and is a whizz on the technical side. Guy also lends his expertise to GSD's marketing and events campaigns. Guy now works part-time at GSD, combining his time here with furthering his education. Peter Rees - Technical Advisor and Company Racedriver (part time) Peter is a talented racedriver, and having represented Great Britain at the European and World Championships in Karting he made the jump from karts to cars in 2005. Peter's first season in Formula Renault was with Scorpio Motorsport and having learned a great deal in his rookie year he is now vying for the championship this year with top team AKA. Within GSD Peter fills a valued role in technical support and customer care and also manages GSD's per click marketing. Another string to Pete's overloaded bow is his ability to make a guitar sing. Peter now works part time for GSD alongside his studies. Laura Rees - Marketing and Events Co-ordinator Laura graduated from college with an HND in Equine Management, then changed tracks to join GSD. Laura now manages GSD's marketing and events calendar and produces promotional material and adverts for magazines, newspapers and the like. Laura is passionate about horses and riding and owns two horses of her own. Pauline Addis - Senior Tech Support & Web Co-ordinator Pauline joined GSD in June 2006 and despite being new to the sat nav game she has already established a sound knowledge of the range and each individual product's attributes (no small feat!) and performs most of GSD's tech support. In addition Pauline co-ordinates the web sales and joins Denise on the shipping and logistics front much to Denise's relief! Pauline is a talented rider and is currently producing her young horse to event. Chris Clarkson - Sales adviser and apprentice tech support Chris is the latest addition to the GSD team and is already proving a huge asset to the company - he has learnt quickly about the products and is also showing that he is capable under pressure. He is, however, the only member of the team that prefers coffee to the GSD staple of tea... |
